KOS TOWN

Important sights of the Kos town are the ruins of the ancient city, the medieval castle of the Knights, the Hippocrates' plane tree and the Asclepieion of Kos, four kilometres southwest of the town.

The town of Kos has been a commercial centre for centuries, there are many tourist shops in the famous "Old Town" and in the shopping streets of Kos, offering gold and silver jewellery, a variety of ceramics and leather goods at extremely low prices. The oil paintings and Byzantine icons are a truly special souvenir. Other shops sell local products such as delicious honey harvested by local beekeepers, wine cheese (tiri tis Posas), goat cheese carefully prepared and cured in red wine.
